Ohio State freshman wide receiver Brandon Inniss became the latest Buckeye to become an “official” member of the team on Monday, as he lost his black stripe following the 15th practice of fall camp.
Inniss arrived at Ohio State as a summer enrollee, joining the program as a five-star prospect out of Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage. He totaled 1,336 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns in his senior season for American Heritage and has started his Ohio State career with high expectations.
“He had a nice scrimmage and he’s really a football player,” head coach Ryan Day said Monday. “I think we all wish he was here in January, but that’s OK. He’s doing a great job. He had to come in the summer and figure all that out, but he will. He’s got a pretty crowded room in there that he’s got to work through. But he’s trying to get in on special teams as a returner and those types of things.”
Inniss joins 12 other Buckeyes that have lost their black stripes since fall camp began, including offensive linemen Victor Cutler Jr., Luke Montgomery, Joshua Padilla and Josh Simmons, defensive tackles Tywone Malone and Kayden McDonald, wide receivers David Adolph, Bryson Rodgers and Noah Rogers, and cornerbacks Jermaine Mathews Jr. and Lorenzo Styles Jr.
With freshman wide receiver Carnell Tate having already lost his black stripe in the spring, that means all of Ohio State’s freshman wide receivers have already shed their black stripes.
