Ohio State Freshman Wide Receiver Jeremiah Smith Continuing To Impress In Spring Practice
Ohio State freshman wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has been the talk of the town since arriving on campus on January, and he continued that discussion with a one-handed catch that the Buckeyes sent out on social media on Saturday afternoon.
In the clip, Smith receives a pass in the left corner of the end zone, and while falling down and drapped in coverage by an unidentified Ohio State defensive back, Smith uses his right hand to pull in the catch and get both feet in bounds on the practice field at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
Smith, the consensus overall wide receiver in the incoming freshman class, has provided highlight after highlight this spring, including last week at Ohio State’s Student Appreciation Day practice. There, he hauled in several deep balls that elicted a response from the hundereds of students in attendance.
Head coach Ryan Day has tried to limit the hype on Smith considering he is just a freshman, but has acknowledged that Smith has had an impressive start to his Ohio State career as he looks to secure a starting job in his first season with the Buckeyes.
“I’m going to be careful what I say, but he’s been certainly a pleasure to watch, and we’re all really excited about his future,” Day said on March 30. “If he continues on the path that he’s on, he’s going to play a lot of football and certainly will have a chance to start as well.”
