A pair of Buckeyes became “official” members of the team following Saturday’s scrimmage, with freshman wide receiver Noah Rodgers and freshman defensive tackle Kayden McDonald each losing their black stripes.
First up was Rogers, who enrolled in the winter and has now lost his black stripe along with fellow freshman wideouts Bryson Rodgers and Carnell Tate.
Rogers arrived at Ohio State out of Rolesville, N.C., and was the No. 53 overall prospect and eighth-ranked receiver in his class. He has been impressive throughout camp, with several highlight-reel receptions in practice viewed by the media.
Next up was McDonald, became the first of Ohio State’s summer enrollees to shed his black stripe. He arrived this summer out of Suwanee (Ga.) North Gwinnett, where he was a four-star and top-300 prospect.
“All I know is when you press play on the video, he keeps making plays,” said C.J. Barnett, director of player development.
McDonald and Rogers join fellow freshman, including safety Malik Hartford, offensive lineman Luke Montgomery, Rodgers, Tate and tight end Jelani Thurman in losing their black stripes.
