Ohio State head coach Kevin McGuff was the latest Buckeye to make a watch list on Wednesday.
McGuff was one of 15 coaches named to the Naismith Women’s College Coach of the Year Watch List, after leading the Buckeyes to a 22-3 start.
Despite starting three first-year players, McGuff helped lead Ohio State to a perfect 11-0 record during the nonconference and so far a 13-0 home record with only two home games left to play. All three of the Buckeyes’ losses this season have come on the road, and two came against current AP top-five teams including No. 3 UCLA and No. 4 USC.
The 12th-year head coach is one year removed from winning the Big Ten Coach of the Year and being named a semifinalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year Award after leading the Buckeyes to a Big Ten regular season championship.
Some of the other coaches on the list included UConn’s Geno Auriemma, UCLA’s Cori Close, USC’s Lindsay Gottlieb, LSU’s Kim Mulkey, and South Carolina’s Dawn Staley.
Before any of the candidates have their name announced as the winner of the award on April 2, four finalists will be announced on March 24.
