Ohio State Head Coach Ryan Day Shares Final Thoughts On Rutgers
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day met with the media on Thursday afternoon for a lightning round of questions ahead of this weekend’s game against Rutgers (3:30 p.m. on BTN).
Here’s a recap of what he had to say:
- Day said fifth-year senior wide receiver C.J. Saunders has been ruled out for this game, but he hasn’t been ruled out for the year despite reports to the contrary.
- Day said defensive end Zach Harrison has been “one of the more improved guy on our team.” Notes how that’s not typically a title given to true freshmen.
- Day said he was pleased with the professionalism of Ohio State’s staff and speed of the process with the Chase Young suspension. “I can’t say enough about our compliance department here.” Added the way Young handled himself was “really admirable.”
- Day gave advice to former Buckeye Sports Bulletin staff writer James Grega, who is the head coach of the Ohio State club football team. “They need big players to step up and take care of the football.”
- Day said he’s a big team nickname guy after he asked who the club football team was playing. “I think they’re the Eagles,” he said of Coppin State.
- Day said Young will not travel with the team this weekend, though they have gotten waivers for injured players to travel in the past. “He’s going to stay back here and lift and get himself ready for Sunday (when the Buckeyes begin practice for Penn State).”
- Day on fifth-year defensive tackles Davon Hamilton, Robert Landers and Jashon Cornell. “They’re all men. Those are three of the guys that you can count on every day.”
