After the Buckeyes flipped Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian Academy 2019 three-star running back Marcus Crowley, the recruiting roll continued Sunday when Rockwall, Texas, 2020 four-star wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba committed to Ohio State.
The 6-1, 188-pounder has held an offer since Sept. 17 and unofficially visited OSU for the first time over the weekend. After he attended Ohio State’s game Saturday against Nebraska, a 36-31 win, Smith-Njigba returned to the Lone Star State with his mind made up.
Among an enormous recruiting weekend for Ohio State, which hosted an abundance of priority prospects across the country in the classes of 2019 and 2020, Smith-Njigba spent time before the game — among others — with fellow Texan and Austin (Texas) Lake Travis 2019 five-star wide receiver commitment Garrett Wilson.
Smith-Njigba is the 247Sports composite’s No. 351 overall prospect, No. 59 wide receiver and No. 36 player in Texas. He has 75 receptions for 1,372 yards (18.3 per catch) with a long of 73 and 16 touchdowns in his junior season for Rockwall.
The commitment bolsters the Buckeyes’ class of 2020 to seven members with Smith-Njigba as OSU’s first wide receiver for the cycle. He joins Marietta, Ga., four-star offensive tackle Jake Wray, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy four-star defensive back Lejond Cavazos, Cincinnati St. Xavier five-star offensive tackle Paris Johnson Jr., Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral four-star quarterback Jack Miller, Montvale (N.J.) St. Joseph Regional four-star offensive guard Luke Wypler and Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral four-star running back Darvon Hubbard.
