Ohio State Linebacker Gabe Powers To Enter Transfer Portal

With just a week to go before the transfer portal opens, linebacker Gabe Powers became the first to announce his intentions to leave Ohio State through the portal when it opens.

There are likely many more to follow in the coming month, but Powers will look for somewhere else to play out his final two seasons of college eligibility.

When the season began, there was a path to backup playing time in Knowles’ 4-2-5 scheme, but Arvell Reese ended up earning that role, getting onto the field and now seeming as if he will take the starting Mike linebacker role from Cody Simon, who is in his final season with the Buckeyes.

Powers didn’t see much action this season, with a total of five tackles, a pass broken up and a pick-six that came against Akron when freshman defensive end Eddrick Houston tipped a pass into Powers’ possession, who took it back to the end zone for a touchdown.

Powers came to Ohio State in the 2022 recruiting class as a four-star out of Marysville, ranked the No. 101 player in the cycle and the No. 8 linebacker.
