Freshman linebacker Garrett Stover became an “official” Buckeye on Wednesday, shedding his black stripe and becoming the 16th freshman to do so this year.
Stover came into Ohio State from Big Walnut High School in Sunbury, where he was the No. 142 prospect in the country and the 10th-best linebacker.
In the 2024 season, Stover has gotten into three games but has not yet recorded a statistic, getting into the wins over Akron, Western Michigan and Purdue. He made the Buckeyes travel roster for the first time when they went to Wrigley Field and beat Northwestern 31-7, although he didn’t see any action in the win.
He joins Payton Pierce in the linebackers room as the only two linebacker recruits in the 2024 class, both of which have lost their black stripe now after Pierce did so on Aug. 13.
