Ohio State is making major improvements to the technology inside the Schottenstein Center. The Buckeyes announced several changes to its video boards inside the arena that is home to the men’s and women’s basketball teams as well as the men’s hockey team.
Perhaps the biggest change made inside the arena will be to the main video board that hangs at center court. The main board will be three times larger in square footage than the previous board and will include four high-resolution LED display faces “configured in a continuous convex design,” according to Ohio State.
The ribbon boards are also noticeably bigger than they previously were. They increased to 36 inches in height from 16 inches and also increased in pixel density to 2.6 million from 400,000.
Ohio State also revamped its technology in the upper-level corner of the stadium. Ohio State replaced its three segmented boards with one continuous board and increased its pixel density to 1.2 million from 100,000.
Ohio State also replaced its 27-year-old audio system with a new system. The audio system has already been replaced, and while the changes to the video boards aren’t currently done, the installations will be completed in September before the start of the 2026-27 seasons for both basketball teams and the men’s hockey team.
“We’ve seen how electric the atmosphere at the Schottenstein Center can be”, Bjork said in a news release about the new changes. “The last two men’s basketball games last year, the Michigan series for men’s hockey and the NCAA Tournament games for women’s basketball were prime examples of a great environment for the fans and the athletes and we want to continue to build on those experiences. The enhancements to the video boards will deliver sharper visuals, allow for more dynamic content, and provide greater connectivity to the action. We want the fans to feel immersed in every moment, from the time they walk in the door until the end of the game.”
Men’s basketball coach Jake Diebler added that the changes to the video boards should only improve the atmosphere inside his team’s home arena.
“When the Schott is rocking, it’s one of the best places to play in college basketball,” Diebler said. “The passion from Buckeye Nation is what makes those environments so great. We want to create as many of those opportunities as we can and the improvements to the video boards will not only enhance the in-venue experience but also help better connect our fans with the team.”
