Ohio State Moves Down To No. 4 in Latest AP Poll After Loss To Oregon
Ohio State moved down only two spots in the week 8 AP Poll following its 32-31 loss to now-#2-ranked Oregon.
The Buckeyes were surpassed in the rankings by Oregon, who outside of No. 1 ranked Texas was the only other team to pick up first-place votes, and Penn State, who mounted a 14-point comeback to defeat USC 33-30 in overtime on Saturday.
Just before Ohio State’s loss to Oregon, Texas defeated previously No. 18-ranked Oklahoma 34-3 to strengthen its grip on the No. 1 spot.
The top 10, was rounded out by No. 5 Georgia, No. 6 Miami, No. 7 Alabama, No. 8 LSU, No. 9 Iowa State and No. 10 Clemson.
LSU was the biggest riser in the poll, moving up five spots after an overtime win over then No. 9 Ole Miss, 29-26, and was one of two new additions to the top 10.
Iowa State was also moved up into the top 10 after they fended off upset-minded West Virginia 28-16.
In addition to the biggest faller in the poll, Ole Miss, who have lost two of their last three games and fell to No. 18, Tennessee was the only other team to drop out of the top 10. The Volunteers almost lost their second straight game when Florida took them to overtime. Tennessee did hang on to win the game 23-17 in overtime.
Outside of the three Big Ten teams in the top five, three more Big Ten teams, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan, reside in the back end of the poll at 22, 16 and 24, respectively.
After their blowout loss in the Red River Rivalry, the Sooners were one of two teams to drop out of the top 25. Utah, which lost its second straight game to Arizona State 27-19 on Friday, also fell out of the top 25 from No. 16.
Utah and Oklahoma were replaced by Army at No. 23 and Navy at No. 25.
