Ohio State Moves Up To No. 2 In Latest AP Top 25

After Ohio State beat Iowa 35-7 and Alabama lost to SEC opponent Vanderbilt 40-35, the Buckeyes moved up to No. 2 in the latest AP top 25 poll released on Sunday. Ohio State received nine first-place votes, only one of two teams to receive any.

The Crimson Tide were coming off of beating then-No. 1 Georgia 41-34 the week before and had taken the top spot in the poll, but weren’t able to keep it for long. Texas, after an off week, takes the top spot in the rankings, moving up one spot. The Longhorns got 52 first-place votes.

The Buckeyes Week 7 Big Ten opponent is now ranked No. 3, with Oregon moving up three spots due to some other major upsets in the top 25. Penn State also jumped three spots to get to No. 4.

Filling out the rest of the top 10 are No. 5 Georgia, No. 6 Miami (Fla.), No. 7 Alabama, No. 8 Tennessee, No. 9 Ole Miss and No. 10 Clemson. The Volunteers dropped four spots after losing to Arkansas 19-14, falling behind in the last two minutes of the game.

No. 21 Missouri and No. 24 Michigan took major hits in the rankings, falling 12 and 14 spots, respectively. The Tigers were beat 41-10 by now-No. 15 Texas A&M, which jumped 10 spots in the rankings, the biggest increase of the week. The Wolverines lost in a national championship rematch to Washington 27-17, and are the only team in the top 25 with two losses.

Also representing the Big Ten in the standings are No. 18 Indiana, which kept its undefeated record with a 41-24 win over Northwestern, and No. 23 Illinois. The Hoosiers are in a three-way tie for their spot in the rankings with Kansas State and Oklahoma.

Newcomers in the rankings is the 5-0, No. 22 Pitt, and No. 25 SMU, which knocked off Louisville on the road 34-27, taking the Cardinals out of the rankings. The Mustangs only loss is to No. 14 BYU, which is undefeated.
