The Ohio State football team named its captains for the 2020 season, with each of the Buckeye leaders speaking to members of the media on an Aug. 4 conference call.
Tuf Borland, a fifth-year senior linebacker, became the second three-time team captain in school history, joining former standout quarterback J.T. Barrett.
Borland is joined by returning captain Jonathon Cooper, who missed significant time with injury in 2019, taking a redshirt. Cooper has recorded 51 tackles (32 solo), 11.5 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks across his Ohio State career.
The first-time captains for the Scarlet and Gray are Wyatt Davis, Justin Fields, Justin Hilliard, Josh Myers, and Shaun Wade.
Davis is a fourth-year junior at right guard, who was a first-team All-American in 2019 after paving the way for the nation’s No. 3 scoring offense (46.9 points per game).
Fields, a junior quarterback, was a Heisman finalist and second-team All-American in his first season as a starter. The projected top-five pick enters his second season in Columbus with sky-high expectations after passing for 3,273 yards and 41 touchdowns with a 67.2 completion percentage and 484 rushing yards and 10 scores.
Hilliard returns as a sixth-year senior linebacker with 51 tackles (33 solo) with four tackles for loss, two pass breakups and one interception in his Ohio State career.
Myers, a fourth-year junior center, earned second-team All-Big Ten honors in his first season as a starter in 2019. The Miamisburg, Ohio, native helped led the Ohio State offense to rank fourth in the country in yardage per game (529.9).
Wade is a fourth-year junior cornerback, who thrived in his first season as a full-time starter in 2019. Wade earned third-team All-Big Ten honors, recording 25 tackles (16 solo) with four tackles for loss, two sacks, one forced fumble, eight pass breakups and one interception.
