Another Ohio State assistant coach could be on the move.
Ohio State offensive line coach Justin Frye is interviewing with the Chicago Bears for the same position he holds with the Buckeyes according to the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs. The Bears are also interviewing Tulane offensive line coach Dan Roushar.
Frye, who has been with Ohio State since coming over from UCLA in 2022, had arguably his best season leading the Buckeyes’ offensive line in 2024. Despite dealing with season-ending injuries to starting offensive linemen like Seth McLaughlin and Josh Simmons, the Buckeyes finished the year with two 1,000-yard rushers in Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson.
Frye has at times struggled to recruit high-end talent for the Buckeyes, but recruiting wouldn’t be a concern to him at the NFL level, where he would join former Ohio State quarterback and current Bears quarterbacks coach J.T. Barrett on first-year head coach Ben Johnson’s staff.
If hired Frye would be the second coach to leave the Buckeyes following their national championship win, after former defensive coordinator Jim Knowles left to take the same job at Penn State.
