Ohio State QB Jack Miller To Transfer

Ohio State redshirt freshman quarterback Jack Miller announced Sunday on Twitter that he has made the decision to enter the transfer portal.

In his statement, Miller said he would like to thank his teammates, coaches, his family and fans for accepting him since he thought about coming to Ohio State.

“I have decided to leave Ohio State and look at opportunities available to me to play the game I love,” Miller said. “I will always love my brothers and my coaches and wish them great success, but for me it is time to get on the field. The coaches have prepared me to face the future head on and with confidence. I will always be thankful for the time they spent with me. Thank you all and God bless The Ohio State Buckeyes.”

Miller appeared in six games for Ohio State across two seasons, completing seven of his 14 passing attempts for 101 yards, in addition to a rushing touchdown.

The Arizona native came to Ohio State in the Class of 2020 along with C.J. Stroud. Both were on the bench in 2020 behind Justin Fields, but Stroud won the starting job this season over Miller and freshmen Kyle McCord and Quinn Ewers.

This season, he appeared in four games as the team’s third-string quarterback before receiving a short-term suspension following his arrest for operating a vehicle under the influence. He later pled guilty to a reduced charge of reckless operation and was reinstated to the football team, but the damage appeared to have already been done, as Ewers was the third quarterback in after Stroud and McCord for Ohio State in the team’s blowout win over Michigan State. He was also listed as unavailable against Michigan.

Miller was ranked as the No. 13 pro-style quarterback in 2020 and the ninth-best prospect in Arizona coming out of high school. He was Ohio State’s second commitment in 2020, verbally pledging to the Buckeyes on July 1, 2018.

This leaves Ohio State with the trio of Stroud, McCord and Ewers for the remainder of this season and into the spring, though the Buckeyes will likely attempt to bring in another quarterback for 2022 due to Ewers reclassification.
