Ohio State quarterback Will Howard became the latest to lose his black stripe during spring practices, becoming the fifth player to do so.
Howard transferred from Kansas State over the offseason and is pushing to try to win the starting job in a competition with Devin Brown.
Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly has good things to say about his new quarterback both on the field and off the field.
“You don’t have to talk to Will for more than five minutes to know where he’s coming from,” Kelly said. “He’s really focused. He knows he’s got a short window left in his college career and he really wants to capitalize on that.
“The other thing is in the short time that Will’s been here, how quickly he’s fit in with the entire team and how much the rest of the players respect him,” Kelly said. “He was one of the gold award winners for his work in the weight room this offseason.”
Howard is the fifth player this spring to lose his black stripe along with Jeremiah Smith, Brennan Schramm, Caleb Downs and Quinshon Judkins making him the third transfer with their new team to shed it.
