It was a good weekend for head coach Kate Sweeney’s rowers, as the Buckeyes took sixth place at the NCAA Team Championships on Sunday, their ninth consecutive top six finish at the event.
The Buckeyes were led by their 2V8 and 1V4 teams, which finished fourth and fifth in their respective races. The 1V8 finished first in the petite finals to take No.7 nationally.
For the 1V4 group, this marked their sixth consecutive top-five finish at the national events, clocking in at a 7:14.244 time that placed them ahead of No. 6 Michigan (7:15.716) by just a little over a second. The fourth-place finish for the 2V8 group was Ohio State’s best since 2017 when it also finished fourth. The 1V8 group took the top spot in the petite final (the grand finals are reserved for the top six teams, the petite finals are for the next six) by toppling Brown by three seconds, finishing in 6:27.717
This is a slight step back overall from the last NCAA Championship that Ohio State took part in back in 2019 (the 2020 event was canceled), when the Buckeyes finished fifth.
