Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson announced Friday that he will be returning for his senior season with the Buckeyes instead of entering his name into the NFL Draft.
Henderson was one of several Buckeyes that could have potentially departed Ohio State for the NFL Draft – many outlets have speculated that he could be a first-round selection – but will instead return for an additional season to boost his stock. He rushed 156 times for 926 yards and 11 touchdowns this season, and had four games with at least 100 rushing yards and a touchdown.
His career thus far has been limited by injuries, as Henderson missed four games last season and an additional three games this season due to a number of ailments. But to this point, he has still appeared in 31 games for the Buckeyes, rushing for 2,745 yards and 32 touchdowns.
Henderson arrived at Ohio State as a five-star prospect out of Hopewell, Va., and backed up his ranking from the moment he stepped on the field, notching a 70-yard catch-and-score in his first career game against Minnesota in 2021. He went on to rush 183 times for 1,248 yards and 15 touchdowns – and had four receiving scores – and set freshman program records for single-game rushing yards (270 vs. Tulsa) and 19 total touchdowns.
While 2022 was a down one for Henderson, he appeared to return to form this year and is primed for a massive senior season with the Buckeyes, even with the transfer addition of former Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins, potentially setting the stage for a split backfield.
Henderson is among several Buckeyes entering their senior seasons – along with defensive linemen Jack Sawyer, J.T. Tuimoloau, Tyleik Williams and Ty Hamilton, wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, offensive lineman Donovan Jackson and cornerbacks Denzel Burke and Jordan Hancock – that have announced their return for next season, establishing a stacked roster for the Buckeyes in 2024.
