Ohio State Running Back TreVeyon Henderson To Miss College Football Playoff

Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson announced Tuesday that he will be out for the remainder of the season and will miss the College Football Playoff as he continues to recover from a lingering foot injury.

He told The Columbus Dispatch on Tuesday that he will have to get surgery on his foot after sustaining an initial injury against Toledo on Sept. 17. Henderson had previously revealed that he played through a broken foot and torn ligaments this season, hampering the sophomore back through most of the year. He appeared in eight games this season, rushing for 571 yards (5.3 yards per attempt) and six touchdowns.

The former five-star running back out of Hopewell, Va., played in Ohio State’s first four games of the season before being ruled out against Rutgers on Oct. 1, and he played in the next three games before missing the Buckeyes’ wins over Northwestern and Indiana. He playing sparingly against Maryland and did not take the field against Michigan on Nov. 26.

Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said earlier Tuesday that the program would have an update on Henderson in the coming days, indicating that an announcement was likely in the works that Henderson would not take the field for the College Football Playoff.

With Henderson out, Ohio State will hope to get running back Miyan Williams fully healthy while continuing to incorporate freshman Dallan Hayden and Chip Trayanym – who played at linebacker for the first half of the season but repped at running back across the final six games, including a 14-carry, 83-yard outing against the Wolverines – as the Buckeyes prepare to take on Georgia in the Peach Bowl in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff.
