Ohio State To Finish Seventh In Director’s Cup, First In Big Ten

When baseball results are finally counted, Ohio State will finish seventh in the Learfield Director’s Cup standings and first in the Big Ten once again.

With 1,006 points currently, Ohio State is positioned to be at the top of the conference for the 10^th time with nine of those finishes coming under current athletics director Gene Smith, who is retiring at the end of the month. The Director’s Cup standings began in 1993-94 and Ohio State has led the league in 2003, 2006, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2023 and 2024.

The Buckeyes were helped to this point by 18 of their sports programs competing in their respective NCAA championships in the past year and nine of them finishing in the top 10.

Third-place finishes in the spring by the men’s golf and tennis programs helped the Buckeyes late to jump into seventh place, currently just over two points ahead of Alabama.

Other than men’s golf and tennis, Ohio State was helped by many women’s teams like hockey (1^st), swimming and diving (9^th), rowing (12^th), gymnastics (13^th), basketball (17^th), tennis (17^th) golf, (31^st), cross country (32^nd), soccer (33^rd) and track and field (45^th).

The seven men’s sports were tennis, golf, volleyball (5^th), gymnastics (6^th), wrestling (8^th), football (10^th) and swimming and diving (13^th).

Already taking first place, even before baseball is counted is Texas, followed by Stanford in second, Tennessee in third, Florida in fourth, UCLA in fifth, Notre Dame in sixth, Alabama in eighth, USC in ninth and Virginia in 10^th.
