Ohio State will be without wide receiver Emeka Egbuka on Saturday at Purdue, as he did not travel after sustaining a lower-leg injury last weekend against Maryland.
“Emeka won’t be able to make it tomorrow. We’ll put the injury report out, but he didn’t make the trip,” head coach Ryan Day said after arriving at the team’s hotel Friday evening. “We’ve got plenty of guys in there that can do the job, so we’ve been practicing that way this week.”
Egbuka suffered the injury in the fourth quarter against the Terrapins after being tackled on the sideline and did not return to the game, and was later seen in a walking boot leaving the game. Day indicated on Tuesday that he did not expect it to be a long-term issue for Egbuka, who has 22 receptions for 303 yards and three touchdowns.
In Egbuka’s place, Ohio State will likely look to Xavier Johnson in the slot, or could see some additional contributions from freshmen like Carnell Tate or Brandon Inniss.
