Ohio State will visit the White House in Washington, D.C., on April 14 to celebrate its 2024 national championship team, head coach Ryan Day confirmed in a media availability held at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on Monday.

“It’s an honor to be invited. We were formally invited,” Day said. “I remember growing up and watching the national championship teams go to the White House. I always looked at that, like, ‘Man, what an honor that would be.’ So, it’s part of the celebration of our team. …Looking forward to getting that all planned out.”

Day’s confirmation comes three days after CBS initially reported that the Buckeyes would be headed to the White House to meet with President Donald Trump. The team will likely also meet with Vice President JD Vance, who graduated from Ohio State in 2009.

Ohio State will be the first college football national champion to visit the White House since 2019 when LSU visited the nation’s capital during Trump’s first term as president. Alabama in 2020, Georgia in 2021 and 2022 and Michigan in 2023 all did not make the trip due to COVID-19 restrictions and scheduling conflicts.

Ohio State last visited the White House in 2015 after its national championship run when former President Barack Obama was in office. It also met with former President George W. Bush in 2003 after their 2002 championship.
