Ohio State Withdraws From Crossover Classic Due To COVID-19 Positivity Rate In South Dakota, 14-Day Quarantine

Ohio State has withdrawn from the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Buckeye withdrew due to the high COVID-19 positivity rate in the state and a recommended 14-day quarantine for people returning to Ohio from a list of seven states including South Dakota from the Ohio Department of Health. South Dakota’s rolling average across seven days for COVID-19 positivity is 50.6 percent, which is the highest of the seven states. 

The Buckeyes were initially set to take part in the Battle 4 Atlantis, which takes place in the Bahamas. Instead, the men’s basketball tourney was moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., taking on the name Crossover Classic. 

Head coach Chris Holtmann and his team were planning to play Penny Hardaway’s Memphis team to open the season Nov. 25, but they will no longer be participating, as first reported by Jeff Goodman of Stadium.

Utah had already withdrawn from the tourney last week. Memphis, Texas A&M, West Virginia, Creighton, Wichita State, Dayton and South Dakota State are still scheduled to take part in the Crossover Classic later this month.
