Ohio State Women Second, Men 10th At Big Ten Outdoor Championships
The Ohio State women’s track and field team pieced together a top-flight finish at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships Sunday.
OSU’s women picked up four individual conference crowns and collected 123 points to finish 16 points behind conference champion Michigan’s 139 point total in second place. Nebraska finished third with 112, Iowa and Penn State tallied 76 and 63 points, respectively, to round out the top five.
The Ohio State men finished in 10th place with a total of 37 points. Nebraska cruised to a conference title on that side of things, racking up 151 points to outpace Minnesota (122), Iowa (120), Wisconsin (72) and Michigan (56).
Of the four individual Big Ten championships OSU collected, the women’s 100-meter relay team was responsible for three of them. The squad was composed of Yanique Dayle, Nya Bussey, Alyssa Marsh and Leah Bertrand and finished with a season-best time of 43.17 seconds, a Big Ten Championship meet record. It is the second-best time in school history.
Bertrand then took the individual version of the event, winning the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.15 seconds. Dayle then recorded a personal best in the 200-meter dash at 22.87 seconds, winning another title for the Buckeyes in a sprint category.
Dayle and Marsh then occupied the middle legs of the Ohio State women’s 400-meter relay team, opened by Bryannia Murphy and anchored by Jaydan Wood, which also won a Big Ten title at a time of 3:29.25, besting the field by more than a second. Marsh, Murphy and Wood finished second, third and fourth, respectively, in the individual 400-meter dash.
Zidane Brown posted the best individual finish for the men, posting a personal best of 45.75 seconds in the 400 to come in second place.
The Buckeyes compete next in the NCAA preliminary rounds May 24 through May 27 in Jacksonville, Fla.
