Ohio State women’s basketball, winners of 11 consecutive games, is now the No. 2 team in the country according to the AP Top 25 released on Monday.
The Buckeyes rose to No. 2 from No. 5 following a pair of wins this past week over Minnesota and Michigan State, and received a boost from losses by the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 teams – Iowa, NC State and Colorado, respectively. Ohio State still trails No. 1 South Carolina, undefeated at 23-0 with all 35 first-place votes, and the only team with a longer winner streak among Power Five teams than the Buckeyes.
This is the highest ranking since Ohio State reached No. 2 last season follow the team’s 19-0 start to the season. The Buckeyes have previously reached No. 2 during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons but have never reached No. 1 in the country.
Ohio State will look to extend the winning streak to 12 games when it hosts Nebraska on 7 p.m., with the game broadcast on Peacock.
