Ohio State’s Sade Olatoye Nominated For NCAA Woman Of The Year Award

Sade Olatoye, the Ohio State women’s track and field standout, was nominated for the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year Award. 

Schools are encouraged to honor their top graduating female college student-athletes annually  by submitting their names for consideration for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. Olatoye represents one of 605 nominees for the prestigious honor. 

Olaytoe’s résumé is exceptional from both an athletic and academic perspective. She was an NCAA champion in the weight throw in 2019.

The Dublin (Ohio) Coffman product won five Big Ten championships and was a two-time Big Ten Indoor Field Athlete of the Year. ACademically, Olatoye was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar for mainlining a grade-point average of 3.70 or better in the 2019-20 academic year.

She graduated in May with a degree in health sciences as a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree (out of three) and a four-time OSU Scholar-Athlete.

Additionally, Olatoye was announced as a winner of the Big Ten’s Wayne Duke Postgraduate Scholarship. She, along with the male recipient, Michigan State’s Scott Piper, will receive $10,000 toward their graduate school studies.

Opposite former Ohio State standout quarterback Dwayne Haskins, Olatoye was named the 2019 Ohio State Female Athlete of the Year.

The Dublin, Ohio native holds four Ohio State records, including both indoor (17.88m) and outdoor (17.88m) shot put marks along with weight throw (24.46m) and hammer throw (67.49m).

The NCAA Woman of the Year Award was established in 1991 to recognize graduating female student-athletes who have exhausted their eligibility and distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, service and leadership throughout their collegiate careers.

The nominees came from all three NCAA divisions from 24 sports, with multisport student-athletes representing 128 of the nominees.

Conference offices will select up to two nominees each from their pool of member school nominees. Then, the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee, which consists of representatives from the NCAA membership, will choose the Top 30 honorees, including 10 from each division.

After cutting the nominees to a top 30, the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee will determine the top three honorees in each division and announce nine finalists. Then, the NCAA Committee on Women’s Athletics will choose the 2020 NCAA Woman of the Year, who will be named in the fall.
