Women’s Track And Field Sends Seven To NCAA Championships
When the NCAA Championships begin on Wednesday, June 5, at Oregon, the Buckeyes will be well represented.
Aniya Mosley ran her way into the semifinals with a program record of 2:01.52 in the 800-meter while Leah Bertrand and Nya Bussey both qualified in the 100-meter with times of 11.09 and 11.26, respectively.
Bertrand, Bussey, Fatouma Conde and Marcia Sey teamed up to win the 4×100-meter relay in 43.09 seconds with the third-best time in program history. In the 4×400, Conde, Chanler Robinson, Columba Effiong and Bryannia Murphy finished ninth to qualify.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Janela Spencer qualified for the next round with a time of 13.15 while Robinson ran a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles of 56.87 to move on.
In the discus, Faith Bender moved on by finishing fifth with a best mark of 57.39 meters.
Baseball Season Comes To An End
After beating Nebraska in the first round of the Big Ten tournament, Ohio State lost to Indiana 14-7 in the second round, getting forced into an elimination game with the Cornhuskers.
The Buckeyes couldn’t get the better of the No. 2 team in the conference for a second time in four days, losing 12-5 and ending their chances at making it into the NCAA tournament since they needed an automatic bid to have a chance.
In the loss, Ohio State had seven hits, with left fielder Trey Lipsey and catcher Matthew Graveline each collecting two of their own.
Colin Purcell started on the mound, going 2 2/3 innings and giving up five runs before Gavin Bruni took over for 3 2/3 innings and gave up three of his own. Zach Brown, Justin Eckhardt and Jacob Morin finished the game for the Buckeyes.
Nebraska went on to win the Big Ten tournament, beating Penn State 2-1 in the championship game.
This was Ohio State’s first season it made the Big Ten tournament since 2019, doing so in head coach Bill Mosiello’s second season with the program.
