Oregon Head Coach Dan Lanning Earns New 6-Year Deal, Raise With Ducks

Dan Lanning has reportedly agreed to a new six-year contract that will raise his average salary to around $11 million annually, a source confirmed to ESPN on Thursday. Lanning’s new deal, which is pending board approval, will run through the 2030 season, and his buyout remains $20 million.

Lanning, 38, earns the restructured contract with Oregon after leading the Ducks to a 13-1 record and perfect 9-0 mark in the Big Ten in their first season in the conference. The Ducks earned both a Big Ten Championship and No. 1 seed in the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff but were bounced in the quarterfinal round by eventual national champion Ohio State by a score of 41-21 at the Rose Bowl.

Despite the loss, the 2024 season was still Oregon’s best under Lanning, who has gone 35-6 in his three seasons leading the program.

Now under contract for the next six years, Lanning will look to turn Oregon into the top program in the Big Ten, dethroning perennial powers such as Michigan and Ohio State in the process.

The Ducks have built a strong foundation to try and achieve that feat, as they have secured top five recruiting classes in each of their first two seasons in the Big Ten and boast a rich NIL gold mine that is led by Nike co-founder and Oregon alum Phil Knight, who co-founded the school’s top NIL collective Division Street.
