OSU Safety Jayden Bonsu To Enter The Transfer Portal
Redshirt freshman safety Jayden Bonsu is entering the transfer portal, multiple sources reported on Wednesday.
Bonsu, who went to St. Peter’s Prep in Hillside, N.J., was the No. 274-ranked player and the No. 24-ranked safety in the 2023 recruiting class is exiting after two quiet seasons at Ohio State. After redshirting in 2023, Bonsu didn’t appear in a single game for the Buckeyes in 2024.
Bonsu’s potential for playing time in 2024, not only took a hit when safety Caleb Downs transferred in from Alabama but also after the emergence of true freshman safety Jaylen McClain as a solid backup option.
As graduate safety Lathan Ransom has no more eligibility left after the 2024 season, the Buckeyes have reportedly looked for safeties they can get out of the portal. Former Purdue safety Dillon Thieneman already chose Oregon over Ohio State, but with Bonsu’s departure, the Buckeyes’ need at safety is only amplified.
Bonsu joins six others already in the portal including, quarterbacks Devin Brown and Air Noland, wide receivers Jayden Ballard and Kojo Antwi, offensive lineman Miles Walker and linebacker Gabe Powers.
