PFF Names Henderson A Top Returning Running Back For 2022
TreVeyon Henderson’s success in an Ohio State uniform felt like a done deal when the Hopewell, Va., native signed his national letter of intent to play for the Buckeyes.
It didn’t take long for the running back to prove to his coaches and teammates why he deserved to be on the field. Refer to the 70-yard touchdown reception on a swing pass from quarterback C.J. Stroud in the Minnesota game as evidence. Or look to the 277-yard rushing performance against Tulsa in which he broke two-time Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin’s single-game rushing record.
Henderson finished the 2021 season with 183 carries for 1,248 yards and 15 touchdowns while also adding 27 catches for 312 yards and four scores in the passing game. He will return to college football next year as one of the most exciting young players in the sport. According to Pro Football Focus’ James Fletcher, the rising sophomore is a top running back returning to their roster for 2022.
“After coming on strong in his freshman season, Henderson looks to build on success with another year in the high-flying Ohio State offense which features new wide receivers,” Fletcher said. “He picked up at least 10 yards on 18.6 percent of his carries, ranking eighth in the country last season.”
With Ohio State’s offensive line likely improving its run scheme by returning to the traditional two tackles, two guards, one center system under new offensive line coach Justin Frye, Henderson should have more room to work with next year, creating an exciting outlook for his 2022 impact.
Fletcher placed Henderson as the No. 4 returning running back behind Deuce Vaughn of Kansas State, Bijan Robinson of Texas and Blake Corum of Michigan. He landed in front of Zach Evans (Ole Miss), Devon Achane (Texas A&M), Braelon Allen (Wisconsin), Jahmyr Gibbs (Alabama), Zach Charbonnet (UCLA) and Tank Bigsby (Auburn).
