Recruiting Outlook: Dead Period To End On June 1, Kiyaunta Goodwin Chooses Kentucky Over Ohio State

  • The NCAA Division I Council announced on April 15 that all sports will be returning to normal recruiting activities starting on June 1. All sports have been in a dead period since March 13, 2020.
  • Memphis (Tenn.) Christian Brothers four-star running back Dallan Hayden picked up his first crystal ball prediction for Ohio State via 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting Steve Wiltfong, who has been 96.4-percent accurate in the 2022 class (107-of-111 predictions).  Hayden, who posted photos from a trip to Ohio State March 18, also holds two crystal ball predictions for Tennessee. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound tailback is the nation’s No. 22 running back and No. 225 overall prospect in the 2022 class. His top four includes the Buckeyes along with Notre Dame, Oregon, and Tennessee.
  • Lehigh Acres (Fla.) Senior five-star running back Richard Young, who added an offer from Tennessee, announced he will be at Ohio State for an unofficial visit June 9-11. Young (6-0, 190) is the No. 1 running back and No. 18 overall prospect in the country for the 2023 class, as well as the fifth-ranked recruit in Florida. 
  • Longview, Texas, five-star wide receiver Jalen Hale picked up offers from Florida and Oregon. The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Ohio State target is rated as the nation’s No. 2 wide receiver and No. 12 overall recruit for 2023. 
  • Ohio State extended an offer to 2023 Del Valle, Texas, four-star wide receiver Braylon James, who hails from the same high school that 2022 five-star commit Caleb Burton played at before transferring to Lake Travis. James (6-3, 175) is the No. 16 wideout and No. 104 overall recruit nationally, picking up offers from Oregon, SMU, Utah, Baylor, and Stanford since March. 
  • 2024 Virginia Beach (Va.) Green Run wide receiver Keylen Adams (6-2, 180) picked up an offer from Ole Miss.
  • 2023 St. Louis DeSmet four-star tight end Mac Markway is planning a June 20 visit to Ohio State.
  • 2023 Dayton Wayne offensive guard Joshua Padilla was named the offensive line MVP at the Under Armor camp in Obetz, Ohio. Padilla is a top target for the Buckeyes and holds one Crystal Ball selection to OSU.
  • Humble (Texas) Atascocita 2022 four-star offensive tackle Kam Dewberry included Ohio State in his list of five final schools, along with Alabama, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Texas. Considered the No. 100 player in the class, Dewberry has one Crystal Ball projection right now, to Texas A&M.
  • As expected, 2022 four-star Charlestown, Ind., offensive tackle Kiyuanta Goodwin announced his commitment to Kentucky over Ohio State and Alabama.
  • OT Tyler Booker; OT Joe Brunner; OT Addison Nichols; and OT Aamil Wagner are all planning visits to Ohio State in June.
  • Greenwood (Ind.) Center Grove four-star defensive tackle Caden Curry had Ohio State in his top 12 schools. Curry is listed as the eighth-best defensive tackle and No. 85 overall prospect in the 2022 class.
  • 2022 Philadelphia Imhotep Institute four-star defensive end Enai White announced that he will be taking a visit to Ohio State on June 25 after visits earlier in the month to Florida, Georgia and Alabama. White is the second-best weakside defensive end and No. 39 recruit in the class.
  • Duncanville, Texas five-star defensive end Omari Abor included Ohio State in his top 10 schools, along with Alabama, Arizona State, Georgia, LSU, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M and USC. Abor is the second-best strongside defensive end and No. 23 overall prospect in the 2022 class.
  • 2023 Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Academy five-star athlete Treyaun Webb will be taking an unofficial visit to Ohio State on June 8. Webb is the third-best athlete and No. 34 overall prospect in the class.
