Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said Tuesday that senior safety Lathan Ransom could return this season, but it “won’t be in the next couple of weeks.”
Ransom has missed Ohio State’s last two games after suffering a lower-leg injury against Wisconsin on Oct. 28. He was seen prior to the Buckeyes’ win over Michigan State utilizing a knee scooter to get around. Before his injury, Ransom had 34 tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss, with an interception, two pass breakups and a forced fumble.
With Ransom expected on the mend for the next few games, Ohio State is expected to look to sophomore safety Sonny Styles, who has filled in at strong safety/bandit for the last two contests.
The shuffling in the secondary has led to cornerback Jordan Hancock starting at nickel, while safety Josh Proctor missed the win over the Spartans, leading to freshman safety Malik Hartford getting the start at free safety/adjuster.
