Ohio State center Seth McLaughlin has been named a finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes a player for combined academic success, football performance and leadership. He is one of 16 finalists for the award.
If McLaughlin does win the award, he would be the third Ohio State player to do so, joining Bobby Hoying in 1995 and Craig Krenzel in 2003.
McLaughlin joined Ohio State as a graduate transfer after earning his bachelor’s degree in finance in just two and a half years and earning his master’s degree in sports hospitality management. He was a first-team Academic All-American in 2023 with the Crimson Tide. He is working towards his third degree at Ohio State in human development and family science.
McLaughlin has started in each of the Buckeyes six games to this point and was named a first-team midseason All-American by the Associated Press, The Athletic, the Senior Bowl and The Sporting News.
Since he was named as a finalist, McLaughlin is officially part of the 2024 NFF National Scholar Athlete class and will receive a scholarship. He is one of 23 NFF National Scholar Athletes Ohio State has had, joining Jordan Fuller (2019), Jacoby Boren (2015), Brian Robiskie (2008), Krenzel (2003) and many others.
The winner of the Campbell Trophy will be announced on Dec. 10 during the National Football Foundation annual awards dinner.
