Several Buckeyes Remain In Limbo For Saturday’s Home Contest Against Michigan State
With just three games left in the regular season, wear and tear is starting to show for Ohio State as the status of several players remains up in the air heading into Saturday’s game against Michigan State.
Head coach Ryan Day said Tuesday that linebacker Tommy Eichenberg, who exited last week’s win over Rutgers with an apparent arm injury, was expected to practice later that day.
“It was another physical game, and it’s like you come out of the game and you go in there and try to identify what happened with everybody, so we’ll keep trying to get these guys treatment the best we can,” Day said. “That’s kind of what I was talking about when it comes to bodies. You know, everyone this time of year is struggling. So. I expect him to be out there today and we’ll kind of see how the week goes, but this time of year, you’re going to have a lot of guys with bumps and bruises, for sure.”
Should Eichenberg not be able to go, it would likely lead to an increased role for sophomore C.J. Hicks or senior Cody Simon, who have each seen snaps when either Eichenberg or Steele Chambers have not been in the game this season.
Day is also unclear on the status for cornerback Denzel Burke and safeties Josh Proctor and Lathan Ransom. Burke missed last week’s win over Rutgers while Proctor left the game with an apparent head injury, and Ransom has been out since suffering a non-contact injury at Wisconsin.
“I don’t know,” Day said. “We’re expecting Denzel to have a pretty good week of work here. Lathan, I think we’re probably going to continue to identify where he’s at maybe later in the week, but Denzel will be out there today.”
