Within 24 hours of Ohio State’s season-ending 82-67 loss to Tennessee in the second round of the NCAA tournament, Sophomore center Faith Carson announced her decision to enter the transfer portal on her Instagram account on Monday.

“For those who supported and believed in me over the past two years, thank you,” Carson said in an Instagram post. “I can’t put into words how much it truly means to me. I am forever grateful for the lifelong friendships I gained during my time here. With that being said, it is in my best interest to enter the transfer portal.”

Standing at 6-4, Carson entered head coach Kevin McGuff’s program with plenty of potential. Carson averaged 20.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 5.8 blocks at Buchanan High School during her senior season on the way to becoming the 2023 Prep Girls Hoops Michigan Player of the Year.

In two seasons with Ohio State though, Carson only played in seven games with the Buckeyes. All seven of Carson’s appearances came during her freshman season when she averaged .6 points and 1.1 rebounds in 1.7 minutes per game. Carson then redshirted ahead of the 2024-25 season and will enter the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining.

Carson’s departure from the program, leaves the Buckeyes with only Elsa Lemmila listed at center, although at 6-4, Ella Hobbs, who also redshirted in 2024-25, has the size to get playing time at center.
