Spring Practice Observations: More Of The Same For Buckeyes

Ohio State had its second spring practice open to the media on Wednesday, and although there was not much to decipher as far as who earned first-team reps, Buckeye Sports Bulletin still had observations and takeaways from the session.

It was more of the same for many different position groups on Wednesday. For the offensive line, the first-team offensive line seemed to stay the same from Monday. From left to right, it was Austin Siereveld at left tackle, Luke Montgomery at left guard, Carson Hinzman at center, Tegra Tshabola at right guard and Ian Moore at right tackle.

Quarterbacks were also more of the same, with Julian Sayin and Lincoln Kienholz seemingly splitting reps, while the first-team wide receivers seemed to be Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate and Brandon Inniss. Mylan Graham appeared to be taking second-team reps.

Tight ends seemed to once again split first-team reps, with Bennett Christian and Will Kacmerek seen splitting reps, while running backs seemed to be James Peoples and CJ Donaldson Jr. leading the reps. Running backs coach Carlos Locklyn was coaching his group hard, even giving some tough love to walk-on running back Chase Brecht.

As for the defense, Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles took first-team reps at linebacker, while Payton Pierce and Garrett Stover were behind those two during drills. Defensive line had the same exact starters with Kenyatta Jackson Jr. and Caden Curry on the edges and Kayden McDonald and Eddrick Houston in the interior.

Safeties were also the same with Caleb Downs being joined by Malik Harford on the first team, and Jaylen McClain following Hartford, while the first-team cornerbacks were Davison Igbinosun and Jermaine Mathews Jr.

Also of note during the practice was Downs, Smith and Inniss all returning kicks once again, and Ohio State’s punters hitting the roof of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center during punt drills.

The next practice open to the media will be on April 5 for Student Appreciation Day.
