Three Buckeyes Named All-America Scholars
Three members of the Ohio State men’s golf team were named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars, the GCAA announced.
The senior trio of Will Grimmer, Will Voetsch, and Daniel Wetterich, who all recently graduated, received the honor for excelling both in the classroom and on the course.
In order to be recognized as a Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar, a student-athlete must be a junior or senior academically, participate in at least 50 percent of his team’s competitive rounds with a stroke average under 76.0, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2.
Will Grimmer became a two-time All-America Scholar (2018, 19) and a three-time Academic All-Big Ten (2017, 18, 19) and OSU Scholar-Athlete recipient (2017, 18, 19). The Cincinnati native graduated with a degree in communications in May.
One of the most accomplished golfers in program history, Grimmer ranks No. 3 of all Ohio State golfers since 1980 with a career 72.62 stroke average and No. 1 with 25 rounds in the 60s.
Will Voetsch earned his second All-America Scholar honors (2018, 19) to go along with his Academic All-Big Ten (2019), and OSU Scholar-Athlete honors (2018, 19). The New Vernon, N.J., native graduated with a degree in finance after transferring from Rice University following his sophomore year.
In two years with the Scarlet and Gray, Voetsch held down the No. 4 spot in the lineup and contributed 41.5 rounds to the Buckeyes’ team scores.
Daniel Wetterich also concluded an excellent Buckeye career by receiving his second All-America Scholar honors (2018, 19), Academic All-Big Ten accolades (2017, 19) and OSU Scholar-Athlete awards (2017, 19). Like Voetsch, Wetterich also studied finance and excelled in the classroom.
Wetterich began his collegiate career at Xavier University before transferring to Ohio State after one year. In his three years in Columbus, the Cincinnati native posted a 72.19 career stroke average, the best mark by an Ohio State men’s golfer since 1980. Across three seasons, Wtterich’s stroke average was never higher than 72.33.
The three Ohio State men’s golfers who claimed All-America Scholar honors were a part of a record 540 student-athletes who earned the honor.
The talented and hard-working trio all were All-America Scholars last season as well, along with Josh Wick, giving the Buckeyes three or more All-America Scholars in consecutive years for the first time since the award’s inception in 1982.
