Ohio State has three players featured on the Walter Camp Player of the Year award watch list, tied with Notre Dame for most of any team in college football.
The three players on Ohio State’s roster on the watch list are wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, running back Quinshon Judkins and quarterback Will Howard.
“We are proud to continue the great work of Walter Camp and recognize the best college football players in the nation,” Foundation president John Barbarotta said in the press release announcing the watch list. “This watch list is a great start to what is shaping up to be another exciting year of college football.”
Egbuka is entering his senior season and looks to be the No. 1 receiver in the room, coming off of a year in which he had 41 catches for 515 yards and four touchdowns, earning third team All-Big Ten despite the down year due to an injury. The year before, he caught 74 passes for 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Judkins transferred to Ohio State over the offseason after two years at Ole Miss and has been dominant in the backfield, rushing for 1,158 yards and 15 touchdowns last season and catching 37 passes for 281 yards and three more scores. In his freshman season, he ran for 1,567 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Howard also transferred to the Buckeyes over the offseason and is looking to take the starting spot, which he has been playing at fall camp so far, although Ryan Day has not officially named a starter yet. Last year, he threw for 2,643 yards and 24 touchdowns while adding 351 rushing yards and nine touchdowns with his legs.
The Walter Camp Foundation will announce ten semifinalists for the player of the year award in early November, narrowing that down to three finalists on Nov. 26, before the winner is announced at the ESPN College Football Awards Show on Dec. 12.
