Urban Meyer Recaps Win Against Indiana, Updates Personal Health Concerns
Urban Meyer, as he normally does, named players of the week before addressing the media on Monday morning.
On offense: Parris Campbell, Johnnie Dixon, K.J. Hill, Austin Mack, Terry McLaurin, Binjimen Victor, Rashod Berry, Luke Farrell and Dwayne Haskins (player of the game). On defense: Johnathon Cooper, Davon Hamilton, Dre’Mont Jones, Pete Werner, Jordan Fuller and Tuf Borland (player of the game).
Meyer briefly recapped the Indiana win before addressing questions about the offense and his own personal health concerns.
Meyer Notes:
- Praised his offensive line’s ability to pass block, but added he wants the offense to be more balanced. For that to happen the running game needs to improve. “The weakness of our team right now is a balanced offense and pass defense.”
- Said there are on-going conversations about Tate Martell playing more in the offense, especially in short-yardage situations.
- Said he has been dealing with a cyst for many years. Had surgery to remove it a few years back. Added he and Ohio State’s staff is continuing to monitor his health.
- Said Malik Harrison and Johnathon Cooper are doing “much better,” today. Added he will know more about their availability for the Minnesota game later on Monday.
- “It is a variety of things,” Meyer said of Ohio State’s struggles in the pass defense.
- “Bump and run coverage is a very tough skill, but we want to challenge every throw. When you’re good, it’s great,” Meyer said of Ohio State’s corner play. “We will continue to believe in that as long as we can.”
- Acknowledged that short-yardage on offense is a concern for Ohio State. Said the Buckeyes needed to be willing to throw more in those situations with Haskins in the game.
- Praised Brian Hartline’s efforts as the wide receivers coach. “He sure could,” have his interim tag removed, Meyer said. Did not commit as to whether or not Hartline would earn that right.
