Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer will be elected into the College Football Hall of Fame, it was revealed on Wednesday.
Meyer coached the Buckeyes for seven seasons, leading them to a national championship win in the 2014 season and three Big Ten titles, accumulating an 83-9 (.902 winning percentage) record during his time in Columbus, which included a 7-0 record over Michigan and a 54-4 record against the Big Ten.
He began his college coaching career at Ohio State back in 1986 as a graduate assistant for Earle Bruce and got his first head coaching position with Bowling Green before moving on to Utah for two seasons, Florida for six years, then the Buckeyes for seven. He has a 187-32 overall record as a head coach at the college level, also winning two national championships with the Gators in 2006 and 2008.
In his first season with the Buckeyes, he led the team to a 12-0 record, the sixth undefeated season in program history, but Ohio State was ineligible for bowl consideration that year.
He also finished his career with a 12-3 record in bowl games, winning his last with Ohio State when the Buckeyes beat Washington 28-23 in the 2019 Rose Bowl.
He is the eighth Ohio State coach to be elected to the College Football Hall of Fame, joining Jim Tressel, John Cooper, Earle Bruce, Woody Hayes, Francis Schmidt, John Wilce and Howard Jones.
