USC redshirt junior quarterback Miller Moss is entering the transfer portal after spending four seasons with the Trojans, he told ESPN in a phone interview on Monday.
He will have one year of eligibility remaining, and has already informed head coach Lincoln Riley and his staff of his decision.
“I really enjoyed my time at USC,” Moss told ESPN. “It was transformative for my life as a whole and for me growing up for the last few years. I’m thankful. I gave that program everything I had. There comes a point where there’s a time to move on to new opportunities, and I’m hoping to better myself as a person and a player.”
Moss leaves USC after serving as the Trojans starting quarterback for nine games this season, completing 233 of his 362 passes for 2,555 passing yards and 18 touchdowns to nine interceptions before being benched for backup Jayden Maiava in early November. The decision was made in large part due to his struggles in Big Ten play, where, after throwing for an impressive 607 passing yards and two touchdowns to no interceptions across his first two games of the year, he threw 19 touchdowns to nine interceptions, including three in one game on Nov. 2 against Washington.
The Trojans have a 4-5 record in Big Ten play this season.
Moss, who threw for 3,469 passing yards and 27 touchdowns across his four years with the Trojans, will likely be one of the top transfer portal prospects this offseason, a development that he said he is excited to take on.
“I think that’s something that I’m excited about in terms of the process,” he said. “Being able to dive into different systems with different coaches and places and see what I gravitate toward in that process.”
