Walk-On RB Sheds Black Stripe

Amari McMahon joined the Ohio State football team as a walk-on running back in fall 2017. On Wednesday, though, he officially became a Buckeye when his black stripe was removed.

McMahon (6-0, 205) is a junior out of Dublin (Ohio) Scioto. He was an OSU Scholar-Athlete last year.

“I want to thank all my teammates for bringing me in,” McMahon said in a short video posted to Twitter, also thanking his coaches – including running backs coach Tony Alford – in the process.

“Love to be a Buckeye. Go Bucks!” He added.

McMahon is the third Ohio State walk on to lose his black stripe this fall, joining quarterback Kory Curtis and tight end Tate Duarte. Six scholarship members of Ohio State’s 2018 freshman class have lost their stripes as well, including defensive tackle Tommy Togiai (spring camp), defensive tackle Taron Vincent, wide receiver Chris Olave, running back Brian Snead and linebackers Teradja Mitchell and Dallas Gant.
