Walk-on running back TC Caffey has entered the transfer portal after spending three years at Ohio State.
Caffey didn’t see the field much during his time in Columbus, but he did make an early impression as a true freshman when in the 77-21 win over Toledo in 2022, he ran for a 49-yard touchdown, showing off his potential.
He suffered a torn ACL toward the end of his freshman season and didn’t see any playing time in 2023 because of it, when he would have likely been on the field at times when the Buckeyes were short running backs due to injuries.
Caffey was hoping to be able to make an impact in 2024, but suffered another knee injury during summer workouts and was forced to miss the entire 2024 season.
The Buckeyes go into the 2025 season with some depth at the position with James Peoples making strides this spring and CJ Donaldson transferring in from West Virginia. He would have also been competing with redshirt freshman Sam Williams-Dixon — who also entered the transfer portal this offseason before deciding to withdraw and return to OSU — and true freshmen Bo Jackson, Anthony Rogers and Isaiah West.
Caffey has two seasons of eligibility remaining after getting into just two games at Ohio State and running the ball 10 times for 66 yards. He joins wide receiver Reis Stocksdale, long snapper Morrow Evans and punter Anthony Venneri — each of them walk-ons at OSU — in the spring transfer portal.
