Washington is hiring former Ohio State center Mike Brewster to serve as its assistant offensive line coach, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Brewster, 35, earns the new role after spending one season as the offensive line coach at Valparaiso. He has been in the collegiate coaching ranks for the past seven seasons with five different programs, including a two-year stint working under former Ohio State nose tackle Luke Fickell at Cincinnati from 2020-21 and a one-year stint with former Ohio State running back Eddie George as his tight ends coach at Tennessee State in 2022.
Brewster will now look to impart his offensive line expertise on the staff of Washington head coach Jedd Fisch, who he played under while Fisch was Brewster’s offensive coordinator with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013.
Brewster spent just two seasons with the Jaguars and had brief stints with the Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints in 2014 after a highly successful four-year career with Ohio State from 2008-11 in which he was a four-year starter and a first-team All-American in 2010. He was also Ohio State’s team captain in 2011 when it went 6-7 under the interim head coach Fickell.
Brewster will have the opportunity to coach against his former team when Ohio State travels to Washington on Sept. 27 in next year’s Big Ten opener.
