The Ohio State women’s rowing team, currently ranked 12th in the nation, posted a strong showing on senior day at Griggs Reservoir in Columbus Saturday to close its regular season.
The No. 12 Buckeyes took six of seven races against No. 20 Indiana and Michigan State. OSU won each of the first six events, taking the second and first novice eight (eight rowers in the boat) races; the third, second and first varsity four and the second varsity eight.
Next up for Ohio State is the 2023 Big Ten Championships. The Buckeyes will be defending their conference crown from a season ago, the 10th in program history and first under head coach Kate Sweeney in what was her fourth season.
OSU’s first varsity eight squad lost the final race of the event by four seconds to Indiana’s boat.
They followed up the conference title with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships. The Buckeyes are still seeking their first national title since winning three in-a-row from 2013 through 2015, part of a run of six consecutive Big Ten championships from 2013 through 2018.
The Big Ten Championships take place May 14 in Indianapolis.
