According to On3’s Pete Thamel, former Alabama transfer defensive end Qua Russaw has been cleared for Ohio State’s Week 2 matchup with Texas.
Russaw is a senior defensive end who appeared in nine games for Alabama last year and finished the season with a sack and 14 total tackles.
His best season came in 2024 as a sophomore at Alabama when he recorded 36 tackles, including 2.5 for loss, a sack, two interceptions and a forced fumble. It is unclear how much playing time he will receive against the Longhorns, but he will likely factor into the rotation in some capacity alongside other Buckeye pass rushers such as fifth-year Kenyatta Jackson Jr., fifth-year Beau Atkinson and sophomore Zion Grady.
Russaw and the rest of the Buckeyes will have quite the challenge going against Texas’ offensive line. The Longhorns have one of the better offensive tackle duos in the country, with seniors Trevor Goosby and Melvin Siani being thought of as potential early NFL draft picks.
